Fifth Grade Paper Mache Crafts

What kid doesn't love to create a paper mache object? Fortunately, the process is quite simple. Make sure your child knows, however, that it takes several days for the project to be completed. Start off by tearing as many newspaper sheets as you can into 1-inch strips. The length of the strips doesn't really matter. Now you can make the homemade plaster. In a large bowl combine 1 ¾ cup of water with 1 cup of flour. Dip your newspaper strips into the plaster mixture and wipe off any excess mixture with your fingers. Set each strip over your mold (usually a balloon) until it is covered. Let it dry overnight and repeat the next day. Once the second layer dries, you can paint and decorate your paper mache object.
