Fifth graders can create a family tree craft when
learning about the history of their family. Start off with a large sheet of
poster board. Paint a big brown tree trunk with lots of branches coming off it.
Now cut leaves out of colored construction paper (use red, green, brown, yellow,
or orange). Write the name of each family member on the top of the leaf. Add a
picture to the center of the leaf, and then list any important dates or special
information about the family member on the bottom. You can photocopy your
picture if you don't want to cut it to fit the leaf. Glue each leaf on a branch
of the tree.
