5th Grade Projects
A great project for a 5th grader is to learn about an animal by taking care of it for a few months. If you don't want to make a big long term commitment, consider getting a turtle for the summer. Some states will allow you to buy a turtle, while other don't. Just visit a turtle habitat near your home and select a turtle. You'll need a cage, food for the turtle, and items that are specific to the type of turtle you have. Painted turtles will need water to swim in and a rock to sunbathe on, while boxer turtle prefer items located on land only. Talk to your local pet store owner and do a little research online. Once the summer is over, release the turtle back into the same habitat you took it from. It will want to start making hibernation preparations.
